The 2025 Hummingbird Migration
April Update!

April is the busiest month of the hummingbird migration.

April sees the most hummingbird arrivals to their Summer breeding/nesting grounds.

Our visitors have been spotting them up the West Coast and up into Delaware and New Jersey on the East Coast!

Hummingbirds tend to migrate up the coast sooner than inland.

The male Ruby-throated hummingbirds usually arrive about 2 weeks before the females to feeders and hummingbird gardens.

What Do Hummingbirds Eat!

Protein Is King!

A hummingbird's main diet is protein from insects!

Contrary to popular belief, nectar is not the main food source for hummingbirds.

Nectar from our feeders and flowers is fuel for energy!

When you're bothered by insects such as mosquitoes, think....

When To Hang Your Feeders!

We Recommend Hanging Your Feeders
About 2 (Two) Weeks Before
Their Estimated Arrival.

Why....

We feel that 2 weeks allows for any flucuation in the normal time period of the hummer's arrivals.

Weather can influence the migration as our hummers are searching for food in their travels.

Weather can alter flower blooms or other nectar supplies.

If you are new to attracting hummingbirds with feeders, timing will matter.

Hummingbirds will spot your feeder if they are nearby or as they pass on the migration route.

If your feeders are not present, hummingbirds might pass you by.

Hummers do have a fantastic memory and will return to the same feeders every year.

If these feeders are not out, they may leave to look somewhere else and never return.

A Few of the Many Positive Reviews for Nature Hills!

"I ordered plants from Nature Hills 5 or 6 different times this spring and I was extremely happy with all the plants. They arrived very well packaged and in excellent condition. Nature Hills is my favorite of the 4 nurseries I ordered from this spring. The plants were often higher priced than other nurseries, but the plants were very large. They were also packaged better than the other nurseries. I'm willing to pay a little more for better quality.(Although the prices was sometimes higher, there was often a discount code or free shipping.)" - Paula S.

"I ordered primropp yellow lilacs. They arrived within 10 days. I was very impressed by the packaging the plants arrive in. I was very impressed by the stock of bare roots that arrived strong and healthy. The instructions that came with how to plant a bare-root plants plan excellent. I will definitely order from Nature Hills Nursery again."-Laureen K.

"A very good experience. Ordering was a breeze, and although Mother Nature delayed a few products, shipping was quick. Any issues we have encountered have been dealt with, and their customer service has been awesome."-Patty T.

"Trees and plants arrived in great shape. They are really growing fast, just keep them watered. Would buy again, wonderful service."-Edward B.

"Plants were healthy and arrived in excellent condition!"-Abigail H.
