Blessed by a Hummingbird

We had just move from midtown Houston to two beautiful wooded acres 25 miles north of the city. I was home alone trying to unpack and settle in when I entered our dining area in our kitchen which has 5 big windows looking out to the large back yard. In one of those windows I saw a huge bug that must have gotten in when I left the door ajar for one more trip to get a box to unpack.
It gave me the creeps, but I would have no peace until that thing was out of there! I didn't have my glasses on, so I didn't noticed until I was quite close that a beautiful little hummingbird was stuck between the mini blind and the window pane. I had to save the poor thing, but was terrified he could get injured during the process. I simply decided to slowly approach him with my hands cupped and scoop him up. He instantly became completely still. It was a magical moment, as if he knew I only wanted to help him. I took him outside to a safe place in case he was injured in any way, and he immediately flew off, just as healthy as could be.
I decided to take his visit as a good omen in our new home. Because of the drought and the visit of my little friend, I have taken it upon myself to make sure there is always plenty of water and nectar for all the birds in our little paradise!
