Hummingbirds, My Little Friends
by Ruth Pinch
(Ragley, Louisiana)
Hummingbirds are extremely smart.
Their migration pattern is a work of art.
It is neat to watch them sip up sap
knowing they are gaining energy to fly across the map.
I love to watch the little birds feast
on mosquitoes, 'what pesky beasts!'
The hummingbirds must gain much weight
then lose it all while they migrate.
Don't forget to feed those little birds a lot!
They will remember and return to the same spot.
I always hate to see my little friends go!
I dream of their return with my face a glow!
Mark your calendars for that special day
when they will return from their time away.
Then they will enjoy nectar so delicious and sweet,
giving them energy for their next great feat!
It will be the most delightful thing you've seen...
They will return to nest and lay eggs the size of beans.
You will be thrilled with the return of your little friends.
The nectar drinking mosquito patrol is back again!
